A few years ago, I switched from being a total die-hard night owl who would have sworn up and down that was my natural state of being to a morning person, up around 4 or 4:30 am every morning during the week…a little later on the weekends. It was an easy change to make, which surprised me, and I absolutely loved the difference it made in my life.
About 8 months ago, somehow I got off track and began sleeping in until around 7am. I’d get up around 4:30, see my husband off to work and then go back to bed. It shifted because I was finding myself so tired all the time and couldn’t seem to kick it. I felt like I needed the extra sleep so I grabbed it when I could and then I found it really hard to get back on track.
A month ago, I began a challenge…The 66 Day Challenge…to help me get back on track. This challenge is based on the premise that it takes 66 days to create a new habit. I had a great start, making it close to 30 days before the flu hit. Well, it didn’t feel right to get up early and not honor my body’s request for extra self-care during this time so, there I was again, off track.
I started the challenge again today…ready to dive in and get back on track. I really love getting up early and having a ton of stuff done before 9 or 10am in the morning! I love having the flexibility to take a longer lunch or whatever I need to do and then have the evening all to myself. I feel like I have more energy than I did before…more motivation and I’m more inspired every day. I do know I need at least 8 hours of sleep or it’s too easy to derail so on the weekends, I sleep in a little later but not much because I find myself awake and ready to start the day because it’s what I know.
I highly recommend giving the challenge a try if there’s a habit you are working to create in your life. Tracking your progress is so motivating when it comes to knowing you are doing a great job. On the 1 Thing website, you can get more information about how the challenge works and download a calendar to help you keep track.
