Success Series: Taking Responsibility

I may from time to time offer links to products or services on my blog. If you click those links, and make a purchase from them, I might get some money to take a vacation...and, by take a vacation, I mean hop on my bike and hit the open road {trails around my house} or maybe attend a movie if it's been a good month.  Thank you for contributing to my bliss!

“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.”
– Jim Rohn, author

personal responsibilityThis section really has two pieces to it. The first is about taking responsibility for your life and all you do. Rhonda Britten, Life Coach, says most people are not afraid of success or failure. They are afraid of taking responsibility for their own lives.

I know this is a scary piece for me. If I fail, I have no one to blame but myself. If I succeed, will I be able to handle it? How do you feel about being responsible for your own life? Are you comfortable with it?

If you find the idea a bit frightening, don’t despair. Just be aware of it and keep moving forward. Feel the fear and do it anyway is one of my favorite sayings.
Some of the best ways to really take responsibility for your life are to stop complaining, stop blaming, and don’t let excuses hold you back. Let’s take a look at each one of these individually.

Jack Canfield says, “You have to believe that something better exists. You have to have a reference point of something you prefer that you are not willing to take responsibility for creating.” If you don’t like where you are today, take action to change it rather than complain about. As yourself these questions: What happened? What did you want to happen? Now, what are you going to do about it? Nobody ever got ahead by complaining.

If you want to succeed, you have to take responsibility for your actions rather than blaming someone else for your results. Where you are today is a reflection of the actions you took yesterday. Nobody ever got ahead by blaming.

Additionally, you have to give up all your excuses. There are all kinds of stories we tell ourselves about why we can’t do something. What if we began to explore all the ways we can do something? How would your life change? What could you achieve?

The other piece of taking responsibility involves others. We are not here to save the world. You are only responsible for yourself. If you are in the healing arts, you may have a tendency to want to take care of others more than you take care of yourself. Remember, you need to be healthy – mind, body and spirit – to really be able to help others. You come first!

“All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you.”
– Wayne Dyer

About Michele

Michele Bergh is a teacher, a student and a lover of life. She is a healing artist who enjoys a variety of mediums and also has a few mad techie skills up her sleeves. By day she primarily does WordPress design and development and works with others to create a blissful life. By night, you'll find her behind a camera lens, on her bike, in a big comfy chair, cooking up a storm in her kitchen or sewing while listening to great music (probably from the 70s) on her ipod. Her greatest joy comes from living a orgasmic life by design.

Yeah, I believe before you even try to help others, you should help yourself first. Have you tried helping others genuinely at the expense of yourself? Thanks for sharing this responsibility post.
